Na The Velvet Queen, waarin hij in Tibet op zoek ging naar de schuwe sneeuwluipaard, keert natuurfotograaf en filmmaker Vincent Munier nu terug naar het landschap dat hem vormde: de bossen van de Vogezen. Samen met zijn vader Michel en zijn zoon Simon trekt hij het woud in, waar mist tussen de bomen hangt en tijd lijkt te vertragen. Wachtend in schuilhutten en luisterend naar de natuur, observeren ze lynxen, herten, uilen en andere schuwe bosbewoners.
